Food Venture for Kids...

Just did a 9 day exhibition! Its a part time job recommended by Kee Meng coz he cannot make it as he will be starting his next semester during the exhibition period. ( Ntu guy lah... ) This job was quite an eye-opener experience for me. Ok i did not learn much from this job, know abit here and there by being a kpoh and asking ppl kpoh questions!!! LOL. But still i can't say that its not a fruitful experience. Its one of my best part-time jobs that i enjoyed. Got to know some great ppl throughout the show. Ppl like Ivan (boss), Alan (electrician), Karen (OIC) and Vivien (operations).

Basically this exhibition is dedicated solely for kids. So, there are alot of children coming with their families. They are so cute. 98% of children love balloons. I was giving out balloons to them and each child have different reactions. Some gladly reached out their hand and reach for it. Some pretended not to want it. (shy lah ....) while some ask their parents if they can have it. LOL. There are even some who came forward to ask for it. But their faces all the same. They smile with delight upon recieving them with the innocence that only a child can exhibit. Its such a refreshing sight in this largely hypocritical world.

Here are some interesting lessons i learned from working in the food-fare....

Be careful when you buy food from the stall that sells taiwan sausages, fishballs and other finger foods. They are probabily "overnight" stuff. Many nights when i knocked off, they always had alot of stocks left. Then they jus dumped it into the freezer. The next day, they just heat it up then proceed to sell them again. Then when the stock runs low they fry fresh ones and place them at the bottom of the stack. So after all the mixing and stuff, god knows if the fishball u are eating were fried last week!!!! Yucks. Now i know why sometimes when i buy sausages, it tastes hard and unfresh.

When eating chicken rice, pls order the "white" one. Not the roasted one. When the hawker have left over white ones for the day, he will keep them and roast them to sell the next day. Most ppl love Roasted Chicken rice while being ignorant of this little secret. Heh heh ... now u know...... :P

When working in a food fare, always make friends with the drinks uncle. You might get free drinks. LOL.... If u are a girl, esp a goodlooking one, you dun have to make friend with them also will get free drinks. Wah lau they damn Zhong se Qin you one........ If u are a guy, you need to try harder. Gossiping in hokkien with them might help. Lending them some muscles will definitely be useful.

Here are the great ppl that i met!

Ivan is my boss. He is very nice guy. Whenever he is here at the foodfare, he will always buy me, nick and Alan lunch or treat us snacks. He even treats the Bangladesh workers when they come and move stuff. Very Generous. He is 36 and yet so successful. He is an entrepreneur and owns his own company, Ev-Ex. He also have a car, enough money to live comfortably and is married with two children. He is also easy on everything. Nick and I concluded that he is our idol man. 14 years later, must be like him.

Alan is a 55 year old electrician with a wealth of experience. Someone once said " what you lack in wisdom, you make it up with experience". How true is that. I realised that we can learn alot of stuff from our parents and our elders. Alan told mi that there are 3 type of ppl in this world. The first type are the planners. They have very clear goals and ambitions that will not waver. Guided by their vision and foresight, they will meticulously plan ahead and sough to fulfill their dreams and ambitions. The 2nd type are more common. They are the type that have some goal or ambitions but are sometimes quite undecided. So they might be disoriented along the way or be slowed down by unforeseen obstacles. Sometime through life, their goals gets clearer and they will work thoughts it with greater enlightenment. Through lots of hardwork and failures, they will finally succeed if they have preservation. The 3rd kind are dreamers. They can only see what is presently in front of them and are totally oblivious to what is going to happen for they future. They have no goals or ambitions and only look for shortterm advantage or petty gains. They are always very satisfied with the little they have and are never ambitious. They will never succeed in life and will be forever in the lows of society. After Alan said that to me i was actually quite shocked. This is so very true and its something that i have never thought of. I tell myself that i must never be a dreamer and must at the very least, be the "2nd type".
We also learn other stuff from old Alan. Like how to properly carve out the meat from a coconut using a flimsy plastic spoon, and how to bathe with freezing cold water. Sometimes i wonder how come he knows so much. Then i realised that he is very observant. He is also always trying to learn how stuff works. Throughout the event, he learnt how to cook certain stuff from the food vendors and he learnt some stuff from us as well. The spirit of never too old to learn...

Wisdom do comes with age huh.... :P

Karen is 33 with 2 daughters. Her two daughters both looks alot like her. Looks very funny when she is holding her 2 kids at both hands. Ivan also have 2 daughters. Hmmm its seems that ppl are having more daughters than sons. Looks like the next generations of guys will have no problem looking for girls :P I noticed that some of the families that came to the food fair all had similar looks. Dad looks like mom and their kids look like them. Pretty amusing huh.....

Okok enough for today. Super long entry. Too many things to write....
